409 - OCT 3
The session opened at 1400 on 3 October. The party decided to do an examination of the cells on level 1 and see what prisoners are there and question them to learn more about the prison.
The cell block was arranged as a hollow square each side being 160 yards long. The sides were marked as A, B, C & D. Each side has 60 cells. The cells have some sort of enchantment on them which prevents spells being cast inside the cells. The cells also appear to be self cleaning.
BLOCK A
The first cell the party came to was 1A23. Inside was a Goblin named Lothag. He had been imprisoned in 406AD. He has been captured in northern Gaul by a Roman cavalry patrol of the 14th Legion led by Litinus. The 14th Legion is usually based in northern Italy but had been deployed to Gaul to deal with an uprising. Lothag had been a member of a gang that had been ravaging villages.
The next cell of interest was 1A41. Inside was a male Elf named Aelé. Jailed in 371AD for bank fraud in Napoli.
BLOCK B
Next cell was 1B12 which contained a Wererat named Criminus who had been jailed in 404AD for murdering a family.
Then the party came to 1B20 which contained a Githzerai named Vizzt. Jailed in 361AD for sacking a temple of Jupiter.
The next cell was 1B28 in which there was a human female named Ariadne. Mid-30s and jailed in 403AD for assassinating the Governor of Mauretania (she claimed he slipped off a wet rock at a waterfall during a picnic and she was blameless).
Then the party examined 1B39 in which there was a Bugbear named Vekit. Jailed in 400AD for raping a Vestal Virgin.
In the adjoining cell (1B40) was the female Drow (Tixitt) the party had met before. She was noticeably more friendly and when asked if the party could get her anything she requested some honey.
In cell 1 B52 was a Hobgoblin named Zek. Jailed in 402AD for arson in Capua.
BLOCK C
In cell 1C21 the party encountered a Dwarf named Magnus. Jailed in 391AD for unathorised slave trading.
Cell 1C38 contained a very gifted Kobold forger named Humboldt. Jailed in 407AD for forging grain contract documents.
1C46 held a Mindflayer called Petronius. Jailed in 398AD for assisting an imperial pretender named Drusus.
In questioning the prisoners the party learned that all of them were subject to some sort of program of experiments that were being run by five mages. Two of the mages were male humans with silver hair (one in a gold robe and the other in a silver robe). There was also a female Elf Sorceror, a male Gnome who seemed to be a specialist in Illusion magic and a male Half Fiend Summoner. None of the prisoners had ever heard the mages being referred to by name.
The experiments seemed to consist of spells being cast on the subjects and their responses were then monitored.
The tests took place on the 1st storey. When the prisoners were taken there the mages transformed the foggy grass field into a massive magic workshop with 20 assistants helping the mages. Subjects were strapped to benches often several at a time being tested.
One of the prisoners recalled seeing an adult Red Dragon being tested on one occasion.
All of the prisoners came across as very bright and capable reprsentatives of their race (even the Kobold).
The prison is clearly still operating in terms of receiving prisoners though Scorpius has never heard of it as an ongoing imperial run facility.
Session ended at 1800 on 3 October.
