409 - Aug 25
The party were successful in dispatching the two Gauths as well as a huge metal man and a metal skeleton.
Prior to that the Warlock had negotiated with the Gauth and was escorted into the dungeon complex beneath the tower to talk to the "constructor".
He emerged from that meeting and indicated that the inhabitants of the dungeon were not connected to Constantine. The party decided to proceed with the attack on the Guaths and, at that point, the Warlock used a spell to leave the party. It was subsequently determined that he had ridden in the direction of Trajectum.
While resting on the 25th August a group of 11 Gnomes suddenly appeared at the campsite. They lwere led by a Gnome named Ninglebot who said they were searching for a Gnome married couple who had been kidnapped by a group of Orcs that used the symbol of the jagged lightening bolt. The party knew nothing of this, but allows the Gnomes to rest at the campsite. The Gnomes said that if the party heard anything then please leave a message at the Inn of the Flaming Bridge in Trajectum.
On the following morning, the party moved back towards the tower. En route Dell and Norry both had potions stolen from their backpacks. The party then heard giggling. The giggling came from two Griggs (Hadet and Fionnel). As is the nature of their kind, they were just being playful. They returned the potions in exchange for some wine. They provided some information on the sort of creatures that lived in the area. Dell and Norry also discovered later that the Griggs had hidden a 100 gp gem in each of their packs.
The party re-entered the dungeon complex. It had been cleaned up.
Moving to the room of the metal skeleton the party noticed that the passage leading from the room was now shrouded in impenetrable blackness. This proved to be highly magical.
Scorpius was able to eventually assess that the blackness was a powerful illusion.
Moving through the blackness the party came into a room. Within it was a Bone Devil and a rather odd looking check which had four legs.
The Devil claimed to be a servant of a mighty mage called Viscus.
Combat ensued and the Bone Devil proved a doughty opponent and was evidently not a summoned entity.
At one point, Taryyn was affected by the Devil's fear aura and fled in panic. Fortunately he was calmed by the cleric.
The Devil gated in another Bone Devil, but it did not stay long as it was unable to get past a protection spell cast by the Cleric.
The remaining Devil was eventually dismissed after it had taken massive damage.
The chest proved to be sentient. Its name was Norbert and it contained a Potion of Shield of Faith, a potion of Reduce Person, a scroll with the spells Acid Splash, Reduce Person and Mirror Image, a +2 Chain Shirt and a wonderous Crystal of Bent Sight.
The chest said that it belonged to the Wizard Lemnos and was anxious to be returned to its master.
It also reveled that Viscus was a human but of great age (he knew Alexander the Great). Also he had bought the Devil into the tower through use of a strange apparatus (beakers / tubes etc).
The party decided to head back to Trajectum. A few miles out from the city they encountered a patrol of 12 mounted Elves led by an Elven Fighter in gleaming plate armour named Thuine. The Elves were engaged in looking for Orcs / Hobgolblins / Goblins, Dell expressed interest in getting some plate armour. Rather surprisingly Thuine agreed to make enquires at the Temple of Jupiter (bloody 20 die rolls).
The party arrived back in Trajectum at 1200 on August 26
